Unique and special: the scaramazza (or baroque) pearls are natural or cultured pearls with an irregular shape. They are on average less expensive than round-shaped pearls, with a few exceptions, such as Australian baroque, a highly sought-after variety. The Scaramazza pearl is also defined as a pearl with a fancy shape, this because of its particular conformation (the classic pearls have a spherical, hemispherical, button, teardrop or oval shape).
Scaramazza pearls are appreciated in the creation of unique jewels with a particularly creative cut. If on the one hand they are the most common of the cultured ones, this does not mean that they are second choice pearls. Their beauty lies in their uniqueness: each pearl takes on a different shape.
The enhancement of a Scaramazza pearl takes place as for classic pearls: colour, uniformity of pearliness, orient (which we can improperly define as the "vividness of the surface"), weight and size.
